It was raining. The kind of rain that makes you want to stay at home all day, and just listen to the heavy raindrops on the roof. Streets were filled with puddles, the dark sky above reflected in them. Although the rain is the loudest sound, only silence can be heard. It was as if there was something else she should be looking out for, the silence creeping into her skin sending me a cold warning.
On a highway, a car speeds along in the torrential downpour. It was as if it could cut through the rain and outrun the clouds, escaping from the roar of the rain. The driver steps on the gas, although there is nowhere for him to be in such a hurry. In a split second, the car takes on a mind of its own, as if making a deal with the wet pavement agreeing to play along, losing all control. At that moment, all he could hear was the silence in his mind. The brakes couldn't stop it in time and the car rams into the moving traffic at an intersection. And though the rain was the loudest sound, his heartbeat grew louder and ultimately silence took over.
Just then someone makes a call. And at that exact moment, a phone rings. It breaks the silence but in the end, silence won.
'I would like to believe it happened, that I can be engulfed in the quiet. But it didn't, and I have to live with the sound of the never ending rain.'
